Youngest Grand Prix Champion September 25, 2005 -
The Brazilian Grand Prix was a historic race. The day belonged to Fernando Alonso as he took second place and became world champion. Alonso is Renaults 24 year old driver from Spain. He started his Formula One racing career at just 19 years old. In Formula One’s 55 year history Alonso is the youngest driver to win the championship. Alonso commented on his win by saying “I am 24 and after this I think there is not much left to do.” Alonso entered the Brazilian Grand Prix very calm, knowing that he had to only take third place to win the championship that day. Alonso also knew that he had both races in Japan and in China to work with if something did happen in Brazil. Fortunately all ended well in Brazil and Fernando Alonso was able to walk away as the youngest World Champion.
